Over the past years, Chile has long been an important trade partner for China in Latin America. The bilateral relationship reveals a positive picture in trade and economic cooperation, in particular, the commodity trade is waxing fast. Meanwhile, the industry structure of two countries is highly complimentary to each other. On 18th November, 2004, Chinese president and Chilean president jointly announced the official inauguration of China-Chile FTA Negotiations Meeting. Since January of 2005, five rounds of negotiation had been conducted covering fields of market access, principle of the place of origin, technical trade barrier, trade relief and mechanism to solve trade conflicts and reached the final agreement at the end of October. This was the second free trade agreement sighed with foreign countries after the China-ASEAN FTA agreement.
