The First Asia Microfinance Forum was held in Beijing Tianlun Dynasty Hotel on March 21-24, 2006. This forum was co-hosted by Australian FDC and BWTP along with Institute of Finance, People’s Bank of China and China Association for Microfinance. The theme of this forum was cooperation and innovation -broadening impact of microfinance in Asia. Three hundred representatives from government departments, microfinance organizations, social groups and international organizations of more than twenty Asian countries attended this forum. During the forum, experts from different countries had deep discussions on microfinance related problems and each aired his own views. This forum was a great success, not only facilitating communication and cooperation on Asian microfinance, but also promoting the development of international microfinance comprehensively. The international organizations of Citybank Group, UNDP, Ford Fund, GTZ, IFAD co-funded this forum and the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE) undertook some of the meeting’s organizing service.
