For economic development and cultural preservation of Tibet , United Nation Development Programme (below refer to UNDP) and China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchange (below refer to CICETE), the Tibet Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme was inaugurated on 21 st June, 2006 in Lhasa with the joint efforts of Tibetan Autonomous Region (below refer to TAR). The programme consists of five inter-linked sub-programmes, including, 1.)Tourism Industry Strengthened for Sustainability and Poverty Alleviation (below refer to Tourism sub-programme); 2.)Development of Trade and Investment into TAR (below refer to Trade sub-programme); 3.)Traditional Artisan Industry Development (below refer to Handicraft sub-programme ); 4.)Old Lhasa City Protection and Development (below refer to OLC sub-programme) and 5.)Tibet Development Forum Platform and Synergy Building (below refer to Forum sub-programme). To the five sub-programmes, the implementing organizations are respectively TAR Tourism Bureau, TAR Department of Commerce, TAR Committee of Nationalities and Religions, Lhasa Municipal Government. The originally planned implementation duration sets for four years, which will end in June 2010. The total budget amounts to 6 million USD, in which the UNDP TRAC resources covers 2 million USD, local government cost-sharing 1 million and the following 3 million USD to be mobilized during the programme implementation. |
